Classes

Lower Grammar - approximately ages 5-8

These children are not independent readers. Most of the reading assignments will be done with parents or older siblings. Lower grammar children are capable of learning a great many facts, and delight in doing so. Memory work and hands on  activities are very important at this stage. Learning should be fun, though formal education takes a back seat to learning good habits and basic cheerful obedience.

Lower grammar classes are lead by a team who are with the children all day, dividing up duties according to their strengths.

Upper Grammar - approximately ages 8-11

These children are able to read more independently. They are  still capable of learning a great many facts, and delight in doing so. Memory work and hands on  activities remain very important at this stage. Learning may become more formal now, though learning good habits and basic cheerful obedience also continue.

Upper grammar students are also led by a team, who divide teaching duties according to gifting. Parent helpers are important in all grammar classes.

Dialectic - approximately ages 11-14

These student are discovering the joy of making connections and ask many questions to make them. They are also learning to challenge ideas, and require guidance to engourage them to ask the questions without becoming a challenge to their parents and teachers.

Teachers for this group teach per subject, rather than by learning level. Thus, dialectic and rhetoric students are usually taught History (or whatever subject) by the same teacher.

Rhetoric - approximately ages 14 and up. This school year, we will offer two Literature options at the rhetoric level. Rhetoric I is for students who are new to the curriculum, are not seeking college prep, or are simply younger. Rhetoric II is for students who have already done at least one year of rhetoric level studies and who are ready to function at an honors level. Students who complete courses at either rhetoric level may appropriately be awarded high school credits. Those completing Rhetoric II classes may be awarded honors credit.

Our core classes at every learning level include History, Geography, Literature, Composition and Art. These are presented using age appropriate methods in unit study fashion built around the framework of the history of the world.
